Yeah, I did it. I won tickets in the lottery and my sister from Ohio joined me. My nephew was there with his friend. They are Catholic. I am not. We stood for five hours. We ate a picnic lunch while shuffling forward in a sea of 80,000 people. We got caught up with each other. We chatted with strangers. We saw Pope Francis speed by in his popemobile. We managed a photo or two. We even saw a rainbow. Then it was over. Was it worth it? Well, it was certainly one of those classic NYC moments — even a cultural event. It was by and large a happy crowd. But most importantly, it brought my sister and her family to the city. I don’t see them as often as I’d like. So yeah, it was definitely worth it.
