Last night, I attended A Dutch Christmas at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. It was presented by Early Music New York. I have seen this group perform several times and it is always a wonderful treat. To hear them perform in a beautiful, intimate cathedral chapel really transports me back in time. In addition to the vocals, there were period instruments like lute and recorder. I sing in a community chorus and when I hear true pros modeling the enunciation and vocal technique we so struggle to master, it is really inspiring. An added bonus that evening was to see the two enormous Phoenix sculptures by Xu Bing that are installed at the cathedral. My photo above barely captures one of them. You really have to see them for yourself. I hope you do.
